Some members will already know that Margaret took a fall on last Wednesday's walk. She has fractured her fibula in one leg and is in pot for 6 weeks!
I visited her today. She is coping, has lifts to the hospital and a good friend who does her shopping.
She is happy to receive her friends as visitors. I won't put her address on here but her mobile number is 07977 849259

If anyone doesn't feel up to the long walk tomorrow, I will do my recce for Wednesday. It is the no 273 bus to Cutthroat Bridge. I will catch it en route. 11 miles. Finish High Bradfield. It will be nice to have some company. See you on the bus.

Three things I have learned today;
1. Never go walking without full waterproofs even if its in Tenerife.
2. Just because they are given as delightful samples of different delicacies made with local ingredients, if you eat too many you will still feel sick.
3. Umbrellas bought at Poundshop are not actually worth a pound.
Seriously though Canarians have put enormous effort into this 2nd annual walking festival. They want to promote the Canaries as a hiking destination and attract a different kind of tourist.
I registered and chose my walks before leaving home. We were given a civic reception and lots of freebies. The walks are well organised and you can choose between coastal, forest and mountain. We were accompanied by local guides, linguists, national park people, tourist office reps and the European President of the Ramblers. I have met people from Hungary, Canada ,Netherlands, Holland and, Denmark.
Next year's festival is in May. Check it out. I paid less than a Contours Walking holiday in the UK for travel, transfers, half board hotel and walking fees. A great experience.

I asked the Patterdale Hotel for an update on their flood news and they kindly gave the following information which may be useful for travellers.
"Regarding the floods, we were extremely lucky here at the hotel, the area is very much open for business, you can gain access from the South via the Kirkstone Pass, from the North via the A66 and the A591 through Dockray or from Penrith off the M6 following the A591 along the lake road avoiding Pooley Bridge."
As there is now a bus running from Penrith on Sundays I will probably travel by train. Is anyone else intending to do that?

Yes, I know I'm late but I have been busy. Plasterer upstairs as we speak. Paint rollers at the ready.
Is there anyone who wants to go to Patterdale and hasn't booked yet? I am looking for a room mate to share with.
